Now We’re Dancing for Real…

After a week break from my last lesson, and what I thought was some solid practice memorizing the choreography, we began what Alexis called “real dancing.” Things like counting tempo, and quick/slow steps… not exactly the aspects I expect to Excel at ;)

The highlight was getting to do two full runs at the end to music. Usually we are going a bit slower and without music so I can learn how to do the steps properly, but Alexis let us do full runs through at the end of practice. We also did it with the “tricks” – I guess it’s common to not do the full moves during practice sessions (like the cartwheel). I definitely agree it saves energy – and I once again left exhausted – but the tricks are the fun part!

The full runs were a blast, and I certainly didn’t keep up with all the steps, but I can at least see a path to where I actually learn all the steps in a sufficient enough way to dance in front of a thousand people. For at least today, I’m optimistic!

Thanks for reading, and thanks for supporting Cristo Rey!
